Wigan face frustration in bid for Chelsea striker Di Santo

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez faces missing out on Chelsea striker Franco di Santo.

Wheeler-dealer Martinez set up the deal for the young target man as he waited for Charles N'Zogbia to join Birmingham City but his decision to turn them down means he cannot afford the buy.

Latics originally wanted Di Santo on loan but they had to use up their second temporary capture in Manchester United's young midfielder Tom Cleverley.

Now - unless Wigan can agree with Bolton and turn Ali Al Habsi's loan deal into a full-time transfer - they will miss out on Di Santo completely.
