Liverpool star Diogo Jota sadly passed away just two weeks after he married his childhood sweetheart in what is a piece of news that has stunned fans from around the world on Thursday morning. Messages have poured in after the news was announced, firstly from his former club, Wolverhampton Wanderers where he made 110 appearances, scoring 44 goals, and bagging 21 assists.

FC Porto
FC Porto also issued a statement, a side were Jota made 27 appearances, scoring an impressive 8 goals whilst on loan.
“FC Porto is in mourning. It is with shock and deep sorrow that we send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, who was also our athlete in the youth ranks.

The Premier League
The Premier League also released a statement, expressing their support in what is a dark time for not just Liverpool fans but fans from all walks of life.
“Everyone at the Premier League is shocked and devastated to learn of the tragic passing of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre. Our sincerest condolences go to Diogo’s family, friends, Liverpool FC, and all their supporters at this heartbreaking time. Football has lost a champion who will be forever missed. Atletico Madrid
Another one of his former clubs, Atletico Madrid, also made a short statement, expressing their deepest condolences.

Jamie Carragher
Jamie Carragher added that his thoughts are with Jota’s family who will be more affected than anyone else after such tragic news.

Finally, Manchester City were one of many clubs who put the rivalry aside and put out a heartfelt statement in what is a great gesture.

Portuguese teammate and friend Ronaldo also sent a message to both Jota and his brother Andre, stating that he cannot believe the news is true.
