Ex-Spurs midfielder Bergwijn: Ajax chasing me for 18 months; LVG very happy

Steven Bergwijn admits new club Ajax have been chasing him for 18 months.

The Holland midfielder left Tottenham for Ajax this in a €31.5m deal.

“It has been going on for a long time, at least a year and a half. When I played a little less at Tottenham, Ajax knocked on the door a few times," Bergwijn told Ajax TV.

"It just never happened, but now it has."

Bergwijn discussed the move with Holland coach Louis van Gaal.

“We have certainly had conversations. In the end, it's up to me, but he spoke to me and said it's a good move. He was very happy to hear the news."

He also spoke with Alfred Schreuder, the new head coach of Ajax.

“I have spoken to the trainer several times, including at my home. I got a good feeling. That made the difference. He made me feel like I could be important."
