Motherwell goalkeeper Mark Gillespie is on his way back to Newcastle United.

Sky Sports says Newcastle have signed goalkeeper Gillespie on a three-year deal with an option of a fourth.

The 28-year-old has been brought as a replacement for the outgoing Rob Elliot and will arrive as a free transfer after leaving Motherwell.

Newcastle are yet to confirm the signing, but they will do so in the coming days.

It's expected an announcement will be made this week.
