Bardsley to consider new Sunderland contract offer

Sunderland full-back Phil Bardsley is considering the offer of a new contract at the Stadium of Light. The former Manchester United trainee was unsure about his future at the start of the season as he was heading into the final year of his current deal.

But the 25-year-old has brushed that aside to make a string of impressive performances, particularly deputising for Kieran Richardson at left-back.

"Phil was actually offered a new contract a few weeks ago and he's currently considering it," boss Steve Bruce told the Sunderland Echo.

"The chairman, Niall Quinn, was in touch with Phil's advisers and we've made an offer to him.

"But it would be wrong to say too much about it because it's still ongoing and hopefully we'll have some good news in the next few weeks."
