Newcastle United fullback Jetro Willems has revealed the influence of Gini Wijnaldum in his move.

Liverpool midfielder Wijnaldum is a former Toon player and plays with Willems for Holland.

On-loan from Eintracht Frankfurt, Willems told the Shields Gazette: "Before I came, I had other options.

"I asked him [Wijnaldum], and he said 'go to Newcastle, [it's a] great club and you will enjoy it, not only the football but the life outside of it'.

"Everyone's watching the Premier League. I knew it wouldn't be the same, because they switched the trainer, but I was very excited to come."
