PSV midfielder Van Ginkel expects Chelsea to trigger contract option

Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel admits he expects a 12 month option in his contract to be triggered by management.

Van Ginkel is currently on-loan at PSV Eindhoven, where he is now seeing action having fully recovered from knee injury. He expects Chelsea to trigger the option before eventually selling him this summer.

Laughing, he told De Telegraaf via Voetbalzone: "Of course there is that option to earn some money from me after all this time, the club has invested a lot in me.

“I don't think I will have a chance there in the first team now."

Van Ginkel admits he'd welcome the opportunity to sign outright with PSV. He continued: “Whether they will grant me a transfer to PSV? They certainly could, but it also depends on what PSV wants with me. I've always had a good time here. I am in my place in the Netherlands and in Eindhoven, close to my family, and I am certainly not finished yet."

Van Ginkel has been on the books at Chelsea since 2013, having been snapped up from former Eredivisie partners Vitesse Arnhem. Over these past eight years, he has managed just seven first team appearances with the Blues. However, he has had five stints away on-loan with Stoke City, AC Milan and now three times with PSV.

As he recovered from knee surgery in London over the summer, Chelsea gave Van Ginkel a new one-year contract, which will expire in June this year.
