David de Gea has rejected a new contract offer from Manchester United.
The Athletic reports while United management want to keep the Spanish goalkeeper they are focused on reducing his huge salary.
De Gea realises he must accept reduced terms if he is to remain at Old Trafford.
When he signed his current deal in September 2019, United agreed to pay De Gea £375,000-a-week - meaning he became the world's highest-paid goalkeeper.
United manager Erik ten Hag wants the keeper to continue at Old Trafford.
De Gea has received a good proposal, but he believes his form is proof he remains a key senior player and as such an appropriate salary should be paid.
