Ex-Roma coach Nanni: Juventus keeper Szczesny in world's top 3

Former Roma goalkeeper coach Guido Nanni has spoken of working with Wojciech Szczesny.

The Pole has just signed a new contract with Juventus and worked with Nanni during a loan spell at Roma from Arsenal.

Nanni recalled to TMW: "It occurs to me the first day I met him, it was during the tour in Indonesia and Australia. I was very worried about my English, but he cleverly learned some Italian phrases and told me not to worry. I already understood then that he was a great character (he smiles).

"Wojciech, despite the rest days assigned, wanted to train at all costs and spoke to me in Italian in the presence of the interpreter.

"He is incredibly cultured, he is a very smart and very intelligent boy who immediately learns. The Italian, he spoke well after a short time."

Asked if Szczesny was now in the top five goalkeepers in the world, Nanni was adamant.

"As a goalkeeper absolutely yes, in fact he is also in the top 3. I say it quite frankly. Wojciech is the prototype of the modern goalkeeper, together with (Barcelona's Marc-Andre) Ter Stegen he is the best as regards playing from the back. He is an added midfielder as he starts actions from defence."
