The centre-back's first campaign was blighted by injury as he made 15 appearances for the Blues.
“I think we had a great group of lads last year," Baines told evertonfc.com.
“The lads we brought in all had their own personalities and all added something to the dressing room.
“We have a lot of South American lads and that was great as well – we saw a different culture and a different way they approach training and coming in every day. And then we tried to show them the way over here as well.
“Yerry, his enthusiasm to come in and fit and learn the language and include himself in things, it was great to see that.
“I have so much respect for him. Over the past year he had setbacks with injuries and his attitude was amazing.
“When you see that and the work someone like that is putting in, and the effort they have to make that you don't in terms of culture and language, you do then want to give a bit more back yourself."
