Duran has linked up with Mourinho's men on loan from Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr and reports were quick to suggest that Mourinho was furious with his new striker for missing out on the side's start to pre-season.
Mourinho had been quoted as saying that the Colombian had not turned up for pre-season training in Portugal and that there would be consequences for such a disrespectful act. However, Fenerbahce's head of communications insists the suggestion that Duran went AWOL are untrue and were completely fabricated.
"The alleged statements attributed to our head coach Jose Mourinho in the foreign press regarding our player Jhon Duran are entirely false," Alper Yemeniciler said.
"Our coach has not made any statements on this matter. Our player arrived in Portugal this (Wednesday) evening to join our team’s Algarve training camp."
Quotes published by Marca and attributed to Mourinho, said: "It's disrespectful. There are clear rules here, and anyone who doesn't follow them will face consequences. We'll talk to him when he shows up, if he does."
The 21-year-old has struggled to find his feet after leaving Aston Villa where he scored 12 goals in all competitions during the first half of last season despite making the majority of his appearances off the bench. Fake reports are not what he needs to bounce back, especially before the season begins and he attempts to get his career back on track.
