Chelsea officially confirmed the departure of head coach Liam Rosenior, less than four months after his arrival in the dugout of the West London club in what was a tough spell for the English coach.

Now, the club are relying on interim manager Calum McFarlane to secure them European football for next season in a plan that isn’t working out as they lost to Nottingham Forest on Monday night.

According to reports, the club’s owners are now searching for a permanent head coach and have landed on Xavi, who has been out of work since leaving Barcelona in 2024.

Xavi won the La Liga title and the Supercopa de Espana in 2023 with the Spanish giants and has stepped away from football since his departure.

The Independent report that that Xavi has learned from his previous role and is now seeking a new "project" that offers more scope than typically found in Spanish football.

“There’s no hurry for me, but I’d like a good project,” Xavi told The Athletic.

“Like, ‘You have four years to work and make a project.’ I’d love to work in the Premier League because I love the passion there.

“In Spain, it’s too much about the result.”

The former midfielder is viewed as a coach whose principles and tactics align with the proactive, possession-based style that the Chelsea board want ahead of next season.

McFarlane is set to see out the campaign and Xavi could join the side in the summer in what now looks like a clear cut appointment.
