Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has brushed off Wayne Rooney's comments on the Gunners potentially celebrating too early this month.

Arsenal booked their spot in the Champions League final with a 1-0 win at the Emirates Stadium over Atletico Madrid earlier this week as they made their first return to the final for the first time in 20 years.

Arteta joined his players on the pitch after the final whistle as they celebrated in a huge group that look delighted to make history after a tough season so far.

The Gunners will play Paris St Germain in the final in Budapest on May 30th in what will be the hardest game of the season for Arteta and his side.

Rooney, however, was not happy with the Arsenal side who he suggested celebrated prematurely.

“They deserve to be in this position, but they haven't won it yet,” Rooney said on Amazon Prime. “The celebrations are a little bit too much. Celebrate when you win.”

Speaking in his pre match conference ahead of this weekend’s clash with West Ham, Arteta was asked about his comments and suggested that they are meaningless.

"First of all, I didn't know about it," Arteta said. "You have to respect every opinion and place them where they belong." When asked where exactly those opinions belonged, he added: “Where they belong. I don't know. That's not important.”

Arsenal lost to PSG in both legs of their semi-final last season before the French champions demolished Inter Milan 5-0 to win the competition. Whether the side celebrated too early is yet to be seen as they prepare for the clash later this month.
