ESPN FC presenter Dan Thomas apologised after suggesting that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta be punched in the face.

Reports suggest Arsenal are planning to offer head coach Mikel Arteta a new contract regardless of end-of-season results even if his side do not lift the Premier League or Champions League this season.

Arteta led Arsenal to their first Champions League final in 20 years after they beat Atletico Madrid in the Semi Final thanks to Bukayo Saka’s goal on the stroke of half-time.

After the clash, as the English side celebrated the historic win, Thomas asked:

“At what stage, as the opposition coach, do you want to punch Arteta in the face? How much does that annoy you?”

This came after Arteta and his side flooded the pitch once the final whistle blew which only adds to his antics this season which include controversial set piece tactics and strange training techniques.

Thomas was forced to send a message to fans after his comments, revealing that he went too far.

“I just want to make reference to something I said yesterday, an off-hand comment that landed literally.

“Obviously, it was not intended to land that way. I’ve thought about it today and I could have phrased it in such a better way.

“So, going forward I will definitely try not to say anything silly.”

Arsenal, who have never won a major European trophy before, will face UCL holders Paris Saint-Germain in the showpiece held in Budapest on May 30th and will play their final 3 league games against West Ham, Burnley and Crystal Palace.
