A key second-half incident in which Arsenal were initially awarded a penalty following a challenge on Eberechi Eze, a decision which was overturned and therefore prompting frustration from the Arsenal players and coaching staff.
Rice could be in hot water if it is felt he questioned the ref’s integrity after the final whistle and then further in a post match interview.
"UEFA is totally different," he said. "In both boxes you have to be so careful because they give absolutely everything. The second one, on Ebs (Eze), is a clear penalty. I don’t know how that’s not been given. I think the fans provoked the decision and changed the ref’s mind."
"In the Champions League, referees are very quick to make decisions and blow the whistle, and there is not much you can do about it. I feel like you are penalized more in European competitions."
According to The Times, UEFA will inspect the referee’s report before determining whether Rice’s outburst questioned the official’s integrity which may lead to a ban from the second leg.
During his time at West Ham United, he previously served a suspension in European competition after criticising officials and as he has done this before, he could be in for a bigger punishment.
The Gunners face Fulham in the Premier League this weekend before the second leg against Atletico at the Emirates Stadium. Rice will know if he can feature in the clash over the coming days in what is a huge worry for the side.
