Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is set to become the next Germany manager after Julian Nagelsmann was let go.

Klopp departed Liverpool after nine years in charge in 2024 as he handed over to Arne Slot in what was a famous farewell at Anfield.

The 59 year old has been working as Red Bull's Head of Global Soccer since January 2025 in a role which sees him control Red Bull's network of football clubs which includes RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg and New York Red Bulls

However, his break from management may now come to an end as confirmed by journalist Florian Plettenburg who revealed that the German Football Association have entered talks with Klopp this week.

“As exclusively reported in recent days, Jürgen Klopp is the DFB’s preferred candidate. He is willing to take over, while Red Bull are prepared to let him leave. Talks have started behind the scenes.

“The DFB have now confirmed: “With regard to the appointment of a new head coach, the DFB leadership will now enter into talks with Jürgen Klopp. He has already signalled his general willingness to take on the role.”

“It’s happening...”

Klopp has also been working at the World Cup as a pundit for German broadcaster Magenta and will have seen every Germany game so far and more specifically what went wrong for the national side this summer.

Germany were knocked out of the 2026 World Cup by Paraguay on penalties, following a 1-1 draw after extra-time in Boston. Klopp seems like the obvious candidate but it is down to him to take the job which seems cursed after their World Cup win in 2014.
