Ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Arsenal on Thursday night, a game that could seriously affect the Premier League title race, Szoboszlai has spoken openly to the club website.
This season, the Hungarian has missed just one Premier League match through suspension and has featured in all six Champions League games. To say he has been essential for manager Arne Slot would be putting it lightly.
The midfielder joined in July 2023 and could be one of the candidates to take over as captain when Virgil van Dijk finally departs. When asked if he would take the armband, he suggested anyone would jump at the chance.
“I can imagine (it), yes. I would love to. Of course, it's an honour to be a captain of Liverpool FC. I think everybody would love to be. Yeah of course, if there is a time, I would love to, yeah.”
Ahead of the clash with Arsenal, as Szoboszlai imagines himself leading the Liverpool side out the tunnel. The 25-year-old revealed that he is looking forward to the clash, where he scored a subline free kick last time out.
“Of course I remember (the freekick). (But) this is the past, I'm thinking of the future. You cannot live from the past. This happened I don't know how many games (ago). I hope another chance is coming, and I can do it again.
“That I know we did it already (this season against Arsenal), first of all. Second of all, we have the quality in the team. And we have a badge that shows we are able to do everything.”
