The Germany attacker has been criticised as he struggles with the demands of the Premier League.
But Slot, before today's clash with Manchester United, defended the £125m summer signing, stating: "He has been a little unlucky with the closures when he has given his teammates chances, but in general it is perfectly normal for a 22-year-old to adapt when moving to another country - not to talk about moving to Premier League.
"Maybe I'm now underestimating the best midfielder who ever played in the Premier League, Kevin De Brayne, he was 21 or 22 when he came to Chelsea.
"Give him some time, I'll say. I will definitely give him some time and in the meantime he has been unlucky."
