Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyökeres will refuse to show up for training today as he forces a move to Arsenal.

The Swedish international who scored 54 goals in 52 appearances last season has made it very clear that his mind it set on a move to North London this summer. Portuguese publication, Record, claims that the date has been moved to tomorrow, Saturday, July 12th, 2025.

However, journalist Fabrizio Romano has stated that it does not matter when training may be for the rest of the preseason, as the striker will not be there in what is an act of defiance against the club.

Viktor Gyökeres will not show up in training at Sporting today, tomorrow or at any moment this summer.

“His decision is clear as reported during the week: he only wants Arsenal, it’s over with Sporting.

“Gyökeres also informed Sporting president about that 5 days ago.”

Arsenal have failed to make progress during their negotiations with Sporting, who are standing firm over their €80m (£68.6m) asking price. This is despite the club signing Chelsea’s Noni Madueke for over £50M which has left many fans scratching their heads as the club clearly have the funds but fail to meet Sporting’s price tag.

The ex-Coventry and Brighton striker is arguably one of the best strikers in the world at the moment and this latest twist in his transfer saga shows that is desperately wants out of the Portuguese side. However, if Arsenal cannot meet Sporting’s valuation, then he will stay with the side and the Gunners will miss out on Gyokeres, whose training debacle will be all for nothing.
