Frank left Brentford to sign a three-year contract at Spurs as he replaces former manager Ange Postecoglou who led the club to their first major trophy in 17 years. The new Tottenham manager delivered a glowing assessment of the squad he is inheriting as he attempts to better their bottom-half finish in the Premier League next season and build a side that is fit for the Champions League.
“I know they haven’t had their best season but look at their line-up. Just take their front three - I think a lot of clubs would have taken them any day.
“Their midfield? (Dejan) Kulusevski, (Rodrigo) Bentancur, (Yves) Bissouma. That’s a very, very, very, very good Premier League midfield.
“And then I know they haven’t had a centre-back but maybe (Archie) Gray and Ben Davies played their best defensive game of the season (against Brentford). They were great.
“(Pedro) Porro is fantastic at right-back. He’s got Trent-ish offensive qualities. And Spence has done very well.”
Porro is a good crosser of the ball and could be tasked with more creative duties under Frank much like Alexander-Arnold has at Liverpool and will have at Real Madrid next season. Frank’s comparison to the England international could be telling of his role next season in a Tottenham side that will be full of confidence after lifting the Europa League at the end of their campaign.
Frank is set to get to work immediately and with his former side Brentford ranking fifth in the Premier League last season for successful open-play crosses, the likes of Porro will be key to turning Spurs from a poor side at the bottom of the league to a team that can challenge for a European spot.
