Arsenal have reached a full agreement with Sporting CP for the transfer of Viktor Gyokeres after months of speculation.

The 27-year-old has been given permission to travel in order to complete his medical with the Gunners and is expected to sign a five-year contract with the Premier League side, who have been chasing his signature for a number of months.

This is reported by the BBC and The Athletic who report that will Arsenal pay an initial €63.5million (£54.8m) plus €10m in add-ons for the Portuguese international who scored 54 goals in 52 games for Sporting last season.

Gyökeres could complete his move in time to join Arsenal's preseason tour in Asia in what is fantastic news for fans who have been crying out for a striker this summer. Reports state that the 27-year-old will take the No 14 shirt at Arsenal, a number worn by the club’s record goalscorer Thierry Henry in what is a huge honour for Gyokeres.

The north London side play Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur in Asia where Gyokeres should feature in an Arsenal shirt for the first time alongside summer signing Noni Madueke in attack who signed from Chelsea earlier this month.

Arsenal were without a recognised No 9 for much of 2024-25 following injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus and the arrival of Gyokeres will be a major relief. The club will now be aiming for the title once more with such firepower up front which will help them challenge against the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City who have all made attacking improvements.
