The 23-year-old, who joined Newcastle from Nottingham Forest for £55million last week, has been training with his teammates for the first time as the Magpies begin their Austrian training camp ahead of this weekend’s clash with Celtic.
Isak is one of the best strikers in the world
Isak has not moved from Newcastle's Austria training camp this week despite reports surrounding his future and Elanga has now revealed to Sky Sports that playing alongside the Swedish international would be an honour.
“You look at this team, I could go through them all. I’ve been here for a week and feel like it’s been forever.
“A player like Alex, he is one of the best strikers in the world and we all (the squad) want to play with him (next season).
“There is always going to be rumours, but training with him and playing at international level with him has been amazing.”
The winger is set to make his Premier League debut against Aston Villa at Villa Park on August 16th once preseason has ended. However, he may never get to start a professional game alongside Isak whose future is up in the air in what would be a crushing blow for Elanga who was clearly looking forward to combining their talents.
Elanga is ready to learn
Despite Isak’s imminent departure, Elanga admitted that he is at the club to learn and that he wants to tap into the club’s rich history as he prepares to start his Newcastle journey.
"I am really excited to put on this black and white shirt. It has a lot of history," he said.
"It is something I really want to buy into. First and foremost, playing my first game will be amazing.
"I want to form partnerships with everyone, even outside the pitch, with different people. On the pitch, communicating, that rapport and that team spirit is vital.
"For me it is about learning from everyone. We are going to need everyone if we are to win games this season. We are a team at the end of the day, we win together and lose together, for me, that is the most important thing."
