Derry, son of former Crystal Palace defender Shaun Derry, reportedly signed a new long-term contract extension with Chelsea this month and has immediately been sent out on loan for first team experience.
This new contract came as interest from top clubs such as Bayern Munich and Juventus was beginning to grow this summer, as Derry’s future looked uncertain especially as new boss Xabi Alonso stepped in at the start of the month.
However, after penning a new deal, Derry is set to jet off to Portugal where consistent first team football awaits him. This comes from transfer guru Fabrizio Romano who revealed the details of the deal on Wednesday morning.
“Jesse Derry to Sporting, here we go! Deal done on loan until June 2027, salary covered and no buy option. Chelsea got new deal done for Derry this week and now allow him to leave on loan to Sporting. Derry will return to #CFC in June 2027.”
Derry has made three Blues first-team appearances to date and made his senior debut for the club in the FA Cup against Hull City in February 2026, just 7 months after signing for the side from Crystal Palace on a 4-year deal.
The teenager's six goals and three assists in 17 Premier League 2 games for Chelsea’s U21 as well as his impressive spells in the first team has made him an exciting prospect that Alonso is keen to hand first team football which he should get over the next season in Portugal.
