Chelsea are reportedly prepared to offer players in a deal to buy Lacroix this summer as they desperately try to solve their defensive woes after the arrival of manager Xabi Alonso.
Crystal Palace are believed to value the 26 year old whose contract at Selhurst Park expires in June 2029, at £60M in a fee that the Blues are keen to bring down.
Lacroix is currently away with France at the 2026 World Cup and ahead of Tuesday's Last 32 knockout tie against Sweden, he will be pondering his future.
As he thinks about a move to West London, the defender has been warned by Petit who spoke to Jackpot City Casino about a curse as he deters him from a switch to Chelsea this summer.
“Maxence Lacroix to Chelsea? Forget it. There is a curse for French defenders at Chelsea. Since Marcel Desailly and William Gallas, they have all failed. How many central defenders do Chelsea have? Eight?
“We still play football with eleven players and two central defenders. So if I’m him, I’m not going to Chelsea. Too many players. What is the plan?
“The one reason he might join is If it is a decision from the manager, Xabi Alonso, then why not. If the manager puts trust in you and you are the first target, you should be in the team from the start rather than fighting for it.”
Chelsea are also in talks to sign Granit Xhaka from Sunderland whilst defender Marco Palestra is set to be announced by the club. Lacroix has a lot to think about as talks begin between the two clubs as he takes Petit’s advice on board.
