According to The Athletic, Chelsea have reached a decision over what young players will be joining the Ligue 1 side who often act as a club for the Blues’ up-and-coming talent to hone their talents. Midfielder Mathis Amougou has already joined the side permanently for an undisclosed fee despite Chelsea signing him from Saint-Etienne for £12.5M earlier this year.
Andrey Santos, Djorde Petrovic, and Caleb Wiley all spent time on loan in Alsace last season but now it seems like Kendry Paez, 18, and Mike Penders, 19 will attempt to impress in Ligue 1 next season, according to Standard Sport.
Penders will essentially be replacing goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic who helped the French club earn Conference League football last season and has now joined Bournemouth in the past few days. Journalist Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed a deal has been done between both clubs for a loan deal for the shot stopper.
“Mike Penders deal, done and set to be sealed as Chelsea goalkeeper will join Strasbourg on loan. Agreement in place for next season while Chelsea see Penders as top talent for the future.”
The Ecuador international Paez, however, spent the summer with Chelsea’s Club World Cup camp but did not feature under manager Enzo Maresca during the tournament. Back in April he was spotted training with Strasbourg to acclimate to Europe so he is no stranger to the club who will welcome him and Penders with open arms as the relationship between the two clubs grows.
