With just five weeks to go until the tournament gets underway on June 11th, Tuchel will be looking over every option as he tries to build the best squad possible for this summer.
Tuchel’s team get their Group L campaign underway against Croatia on June 17th, before turning their attention to Ghana on June 23rd and then Panama on June 27th in what is a tough group for the Three Lions.
No matter what the German coach decides, England fans will be divided on the squad but especially in defence as many supporters debate as to whether Alexander-Arnold should make the cut.
Rooney spoke on the Wayne Rooney Podcast this week about the choice alongside Luke Shaw who he backs to fill in the other fullback position.
"No disrespect to Ben White – I think he's a fantastic player – but for him to be in the squad and playing ahead of Trent is mind-boggling.
"Reece James isn't the most defensive," Rooney said. "In terms of the lads who are there, you wouldn't say they're the best defensively anyway, (any) of them."
Rooney also back Luke Shaw at left back: "We don't need our full-backs to be the most attacking; we need them to defend," Rooney said. "Keep the balance and let the attacking player win you the games.
"Luke Shaw can't (attack) as much now, but what he can do is defend."
The former Liverpool star has been left out of Tuchel's last four squads after joining the Spanish team shortly before the expiry of his contract at Anfield. It has been a mixed move for the defender which could ruin his World Cup chances as Tuchel decides on who will travel to North America.
