FHis side surrendered a one-goal lead in the closing stages in Atlanta as Argentina turned the tide through late goals from Enzo Fernandez and substitute Lautaro Martinez to snatch a 2-1 win.
Tuchel's call to bring on three defenders at 1-0, shortly before Fernandez's equaliser, has been heavily criticised as the key reason for the defeat.
England's possession stats dropped sharply after Anthony Gordon edged them in front on 55 minutes and they were outfought late on.
Part of Tuchel's brief after replacing Gareth Southgate at the start of 2025 was to find the missing ingredient in big gams, afar Southgate led England to back-to-back UEFA European Championship final losses against Italy and Spain.
However, former England stars Wayne Rooney and Joe Hart called out Tuchel for falling into the same trap at a crunch moment.
"You can't go a goal up and then just surrender the ball and the chance to score a second goal," Rooney told BBC Sport.
"You want to be on the front foot, the pressure is on Argentina to get back in the game, and you have to make them feel they can't get back into the game.
"If you let quality players - like Argentina have - get time and space around your penalty box, they will score.
"Southgate took a lot of criticism when it came to big moments for England. For being too defensive too early in games, but I don't think anything has changed," added Hart
"For Tuchel to make the changes when he did, he's saying 'I don't believe in this team' or that they could not land any more punches on Argentina."
