England return to the high-altitude Azteca for the first time since that infamous loss to Argentina in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final.
The Three Lions face their biggest test of the tournament so far at a ground that is 2,200 metres above sea level, meaning players will be exhausted quicker as they fail to adapt to the intense conditions.
What makes things worse is that Mexican fans are set to generate so much noise outside the stadium with drums, horns, whistles and music that will force the England side to stay awake.
Reports have now revealed that over 100 riot police in bullet-proof vests are on duty outside the hotel where the England team is staying the night before the game as they expect the worst.
The Independant state that security measures at the hotel include a fence, officers from the Guardia Nacional, a police dog, and a drone which arrived as over 200 fans made noise on Saturday night.
Mexican authorities have confirmed that 17,000 police officers will be on duty on Sunday, as reported by The New York Times.
Fifa’s World Cup regulations also state that the governing body has “the right to cancel, reschedule or relocate one or more matches…for any reason at its sole discretion, including as a result of force majeure or due to health, safety or security concerns”.
