Chivu has taken charge of Inter after just months in charge of Parma last season.
Despite an inconsistent start to the campaign, Cassano is upbeat about Chivu: "I know Chivu well, apart from the fact that he was phenomenal as a player, a number 1 in defense: he was a full-back, a center back, or a three-man defense; he could do whatever he wanted.
"As a coach, he saved a struggling Parma side; then at the Club World Cup he had been in charge for a quarter of an hour, with Inter's players all stressed out and unable to take it anymore; that experience doesn't exist. Now I see a team where the wing-backs press, he doesn't want to wait and goes to win the ball back quickly, even if it means taking risks at times. He's also honest, polite, respects everyone; he's humble, and that's how he is in life too. A polite person."
Inter, however, wanted Como's Cesc Fabregas, as the former striker also said in Viva el Futebol: "They wanted a coach who would try to play football, changing his identity from the four years spent exclusively behind the ball. I have great faith in his work, that he can establish himself and do well at Inter.
"We need to see how it goes, because it's one thing to finish second and compete for the league title with Napoli, but another to be out of the top four. I have faith in this choice, even though Inter wanted Fabregas. Inter then wanted Ademola Lookman at all costs, which meant wanting to change their playing identity to a 3-4-3 or a 4-3-3. But that's another matter."
