Alan Shearer says he is okay with Sandro Tonali leaving Newcastle as the club will reinvest.

Tottenham Hotspur are set to break their transfer record for a second time as they agreed a deal worth up to £100M with Newcastle United for midfielder Sandro Tonali earlier this week.

After already agreeing a deal for Mateus Fernandes, Spurs are keen on introducing Tonali to the side who will compete for Europe next season.

Newcastle fans were furious with the news after Anthony Gordon has already left and Bruno Guimaraes has been linked with a move away from the side who are looking fragile under manager Eddie Howe.

However, despite the outrage, Shearer spoke with Betfair about how he is optimistic about the deal.

“I'm okay with Tonali leaving. As I previously said on this saga, if Newcastle set their fee at three figures and stick to it then that is fine and that's what they've got. I don't think he had a great season last season.

“We didn't see the Tonali we saw the season before, because he was incredible the season before. I thought by his own high standards, he didn't hit those heights last season at Newcastle. So, to get that much money for him, I think it's good. I think it's a good deal for Newcastle.

“They now have to spend that money wisely. By all accounts, they're going for young, hungry players in terms of £30M or £40M pound deals. So, if that's the case, then I'm okay with it.”

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Newcastle United midfielder has arrived in London to complete his medical in what looks like a done deal which will allow the Magpies to reinvest in fresh players ahead of the new campaign.
