Having already beaten Preston North End and Stoke City in pre-season, the Reds were beaten by Italian giants AC Milan in a tough 4-2 loss in what was a lesson for manager Arne Slot and his side to not let their guard down against anyone before the season begins.
Robertson has heaped praise on two young Liverpool prospects who he believes have a bright future ahead of them as they continue to be handed chances by Slot, who often gives younger prospects a lot of game time in the lead up to the new season.
Ngumoha scored against Stoke City in a behind-closed-doors friendly last week and impressed against Milan once again this weekend. Speaking after the game, Robertson says the teenager will take elements from players like Mohamed Salah as he keeps developing.
“No, look he’s a good kid and he’s got a fantastic head on his shoulders, and especially when he’s got people like Mo Salah who can help him so much as well,” Robertson told the Anfield Wrap after Saturday’s game.
“We always try to help him and Trey (Nyoni) you know, they’re so young but they’re such good kids and they have got a hell of a future ahead of themselves.
“So you can just see them coming on (improving) every time and the more they train and play with us, the more they just get better and better.
“Obviously that’s the last two games I’ve played now with Rio in front of me and he just keeps on coming on and he’s got a great future ahead of him but the here and now looks pretty good as well.”
Nyoni won three duels and three tackles, completed 92% of his passes and made one interception against Milan. Meanwhile it was Ngumoha setup Dominik Szoboszlai’s first-half goal to level the score. There is not doubt that the pair have a bright future and now it is about showing their ability in preseason to potentially find a loan move away from the side to play consistently and improve their game.
