Gyokeres is not in the Sweden squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Switzerland in mid-November in what is a setback for the striker who was substituted at half-time during the weekend's 2-0 victory over Burnley.
However, former Chelsea and West Ham United boss Potter did include Isak, who has missed a number of recent games for Liverpool, including their 2-0 win over Aston Villa and 1-0 over Real Madrid.
It now appears exceedingly unlikely that Gyokeres will play any part against Sunderland on Saturday evening in what is a worry for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who is already without backup strikers Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus due to injuries.
Reports state that the Swedish FA will have been in close contact with Liverpool regarding Isak’s fitness, and therefore understand that he will be fit enough to feature for Potter.
Isak played the full 180 minutes for his country during the October break but failed to impress before Potter stepped in. Now, without Gyokeres, he has a strong chance to step in and establish himself under Potter as they try to salvage World Cup qualification.
