Cole Palmer has spoken on England boss Thomas Tuchel leaving him out of the World Cup squad.

Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harry Maguire, Adam Wharton and Morgan Gibbs-White were famously left out of England’s World Cup squad this summer as fans scratched their head at Tuchel’s selection.

Despite scoring in the final of Euro 2024, Palmer who is just 23 years old was left at home in what was arguably the biggest omission from a Three Lions side which has reached the Round of 16.

An injury-disrupted season and dip in club form hurt Palmer’s chances and fans were divided by him being left out, especially as the likes of Noni Madueke made the cut.

Speaking on his omission as well as fan support, Palmer revealed that he is keen to prove to Tuchel that he is worthy of a call up.

“Every player that plays football wants to be at the World Cup,' Palmer told The Times. 'But it's a decision that I cannot change and a hard one, for whatever reason. But I'm just trying to enjoy the summer off - the first summer I've ever had off.

Asked whether he's heard the support from fans, Palmer said:

“Yeah, of course, it's nice, but I'm not there. I know what I could have offered - something different to what the manager has picked. But like I said before, I can't change the decision and I wish everyone the best.

“It's like anything. If you're told you're essentially not good enough then you're going to want to prove people wrong.”
