The Magpies have been backed to land a deal to sign Saints goalkeeper Ramsdale amid speculation about interest from Rangers, Leeds United and West Ham United who have all inquired about the shot stopper this summer.
Ramsdale is said to have a £20M relegation release clause in his contract and now after manager Eddie Howe missed out on Burnley star James Trafford who signed for Manchester City, the England international is next on his transfer wishlist.
“EXCLUSIVE: Aaron Ramsdale is in talks to sign for Newcastle.
“The England international played under Eddie Howe at Bournemouth and #NUFC were interested in signing him last summer.
“#NUFC missed out on James Trafford, who is moving to Man City instead, and have turned to Ramsdale.

Ramsdale's release clause would see Southampton make a loss after agreeing a £25m deal last summer but after being relegated to the Championship the club will have to find funds from the sale of top players to help fuel their way back to the Premier League.
The 27 year old earns around £100k-per-week at Southampton and has three years left on his deal and Howe hopes to use him to challenge current No.1 Nick Pope for his spot between the sticks which could improve both goalkeepers as they fight for a spot in the first team.
