Promising youngsters Oliver Goodbrand and Alfie Hutchison have signed for Newcastle United from Rangers this week.

The Magpies have beaten several Premier League clubs to sign Rangers youngsters Hutchison and Goodbrand who are two top talents who are both 16-year-old Scotland youth internationals. Goodbrand is a left-footed defender who has also played on the wing whilst Hutchison is a rapid winger who obviously caught the eye of manager Eddie Howe

Academy Director Steve Harper opened up on the deal that was reported last month and has now been finalised in what is an exciting move from the Premier League side who lured the pair across the border.

"Alfie and Oliver are two exciting additions to our Academy and we're really pleased to bring them into the programme.

"They've both shown strong potential at club and international level and arrive with a great attitude and a hunger to keep improving.

"Our recruitment team deserve great credit for bringing Alfie and Oliver to the club and we're confident they'll benefit from the environment we've created here.

"We're looking forward to seeing them both settle into the group and supporting their development as they take their next steps in the game."

Newcastle will be required to pay compensation for both players who make the short journey from Glasgow to Tyneside which is often a destination for Scottish talent who see the city as a quick move down South. The UEFA Youth League also gives Newcastle an advantage when luring young talent to St James’ Park which was clearly an attractive prospect for Hutchison and Goodbrand this summer.
