Former Premier League defender Micah Richards has sent a message to Arsenal as they track down the title.

Arsenal are currently the favourites to claim this year’s Premier League title under Mikel Arteta as they track down their first title in over two decades.

The Gunners sit seven points clear of second place Manchester City with eight games to be played and next face Everton this weekend as they aim to extend that lead to a stunning 10 points.

However, after finishing second for so many years under Arteta, Richard has sent a warning to the North London side who he says must remain vigilant.

"All I would say – and I don’t want to be the negative one – is they haven’t won anything just yet. In terms of results they’ve been pretty faultless but in terms of style of play, they score a lot of set-pieces and own goals.

“I don’t think it’s wrong for people to pick that out, but I also don’t think it’s right for people to be negative and say Arsenal don’t play good football. The objective at the end of the season is to win the league, who cares how you get over the line?

"They’re top of the Premier League and I think Arsenal are the favourites for the Champions League because I think it will suit them more than the domestic games. In the Champions League the games might get a little bit more stretched whereas in the Premier League everyone is going to that low block against them."

City are eyeing a seventh Premier League trophy in nine years and have much more experience in going all the way. However, with the gap so wide it is Arsenal who must remain consistent to go on and win the title.
