Lampard’s future has been thrust into the spotlight after he fired Coventry back to the Premier League this season with a fantastic campaign that left them top of the table by some distance.
The former England international has a year left on the two-and-a-half-year contract he signed in November 2024 and after so much success he has naturally been linked with a move back to Chelsea.
Lampard was the permanent head coach at Chelsea from 2019 to 2021 and despite them sacking Liam Rosenior this month, McCoist spoke to TalkSPORT Bet about how the former midfielder should stick with Coventry.
“I'd love to see Frank Lampard stay, I'd love to see him continue to build. I just think it's a brilliant story. I sent him a message last week, I was chuffed to bits for him. Because I think in some quarters, Frank's received some harsh criticism.
“It goes with the territory when you're in that job, of course you're a manager, of course, and you're going to differ in opinions, of course you are. But the job that's been done there, and Mark Robins, he deserves a mention too. Make no mistake about it, and Frank would be the first to say that.
“I just think it's a brilliant story. I'm so pleased for Frank, as I said in my message, I'm chuffed to bits for him and his staff and the players and the fans. And it's one of these, you know, it's just a feel-good story. That's what it is. And more strength to him.
“Getting up as champions, I think would be a brilliant achievement, as I say, well done to Frank, his boys. And then Mark Robins, he’ll be proud as well.”
Chelsea’s owners are currently searching the market for their Rosenior replacement, with no solid names lined up just yet as Calum McFarlane leads the side for the rest of the season.
