Enzo Maresca is the favourite to replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City if he leaves at the end of the season.

Chelsea sacked Maresca, 46, in January after 18 months in charge, replacing him with Liam Rosenior who was also sacked earlier this week.

Maresca has been out of work since departing Chelsea in January and has only ever been linked with a move to Manchester City to replace Guardiola whose future is up in the air.

The Spaniard is set to decide on his future in the coming months, with the title race likely playing on his mind more than ever as the season enters the final few weeks.

Now, as per Fabrizio Romano, Maresca is said to be top of City’s list to replace Guardiola who has won every trophy possible in Manchester.

“Enzo Maresca remains the clear top candidate to become next Manchester City manager, if/when Pep leaves.

“Timing only depends on Guardiola — but #MCFC see Maresca as ideal candidate.

“Italian clubs also keen, nothing signed but clear plan by City.”

The Guardian claim that Guardiola departing sooner rather than later is a “growing possibility” as he seeks to end his decade long spell in charge by lifting the Premier League one final time.

Guardiola is reportedly open to taking charge of the Italian side who failed to make the World Cup once again this summer in what could be a more relaxed more for the City boss.
