Onana managed to rediscover some form in Turkey, keeping six clean sheets and conceding 34 goals in his 29 league games.
According to Fabrizio Romano, United have now agreed a deal with Trabzonspor that would see him return for a second season on loan.
United will earn a loan fee of £1.3 million for the season based on performances, although there will be no buy option or obligation included.
Onana will then once again return to Old Trafford at the end of 2026-27.
