Mainoo was unused for the second week running in United's 1-1 draw at Fulham as he watched captain Bruno Fernandes fire a penalty over the bar and the likes of Casemiro and Mason Mount fail to control the game as the Red Devils failed to pick up 3 points once again.
The England international has over two years remaining on his current deal and according to United In Focus, Mainoo wants to play football which will lead to a loan away if he is not made more promises over consistent game time under manager Ruben Amorim who revealed that he is competing with Fernandes for a spot in the middle of the park.
"He’s fighting for the position now with Bruno," Amorim said of Mainoo. "And I change two midfielders. I let Mason Mount (play) there because we want to score a goal and when I changed I felt the team need to return to one holding midfielder near Bruno.
"So he (Mainoo) just needs to fight for the position with Bruno, as (it) should be at Manchester United. (Sometimes) he’s going to play with Bruno, but at the moment he’s fighting in training with Bruno for the position."
The 20 year old has started just 15 of Amorim's 44 matches in charge to date and continues to play second fiddle to Fernandes who will not be dislodged from the United side anytime soon. Mainoo is ready to quit United in search of regular football and a loan move away will have to secured within the next week if they were to happen which means he will have to act quick unless he wants to warm the bench under Amorim who is unlikely to give him a chance.
