Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent insists Alexander Isak should be left on the bench by Liverpool manager Arne Slot.

Bent says Hugo Ekitike deserves an extended run as centre-forward given his current goalscoring form.

Ekitike has scored four goals in the past two games and Bent said on talkSPORT: “I know there’s been a lot made of Isak and you’ve got Ekitike there and he’s (Slot) trying to make changes and give Isak the opportunity.

“It almost looks like the Liverpool move has been too big for him (Isak).

“I know he hasn’t had a full pre-season but watching his performance compared to Ekitike, Ekitike looks like he’s a centre-forward that’s gone to Liverpool and embraced it,” Bent added.

“He’s said this club’s massive and I am not giving up this shirt.

“Isak’s gone in there with a little bit of desperation. He’s so desperate to prove he’s better than Ekitike.

“If I’m Arne Slot, I’m saying ‘you know Isak I’ve given you enough opportunities now, he’s (Ekitike) number one. When he goes off form, then you’ll get an opportunity'."
