New boss Andoni Iraola is looking for a second winger to add to his squad after completing a £34.5M deal to bring in Victor Munoz from Osasuna.
However, RB Leipzig are prepared to demand a huge transfer fee for the 19-year-old, despite only paying £17.3M to land him from Leganes last summer, and Liverpool have already seen an opening €100M offer rejected by the Bundesliga side.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has stated Liverpool will make an improved offer in excess of the Premier League transfer record of £125M they paid for Alexander Isak in 2025 - and Diomande is ready to make the move to Anfield.
That yawning gap between Leipzig's lofty valuation of the teenager and Liverpool ceiling for offers remains as a key blockade on any deal and Iraola is also looking at current Premier League options.
As per the Liverpool Echo, Brighton & Hove Albion star Yankuba Minteh is top of Iraola's Plan B list if he fails to secure Diomande, with Gambian having two seasons of EPL experience compared to Diomande's one in Germany.
The 21-year-old only has 10 Premier League goals across those two campaigns, but his all-action displays for the Seagulls have caused headaches for defences, and exit fee is set at around £40M.
Whilst his goal output may not catch the eye, his all-round game has kept him on Iraola's radar, and he ended the 2025/26 season in second place for crosses in the Premier League by attacking players (159) compared to Mohamed Salah's total of 119.
