Alexander Isak has admitted he feels like he is in top form as he thrives with Sweden at the World Cup.

Following his £125M transfer from Newcastle United, Isak has been put under the microscope at Liverpool as fans and pundits alike analyse his every move on Merseyside.

The 26-year-old managed just four goals in 22 appearances across all competitions since his British record as he suffered with constant injuries and constantly failing to get to full fitness.

Isak scored his first ever World Cup goal in the 5-1 rout of Tunisia and has thrived at the tournament so far despite Sweden’s struggles.

Speaking on his fitness and form, the Liverpool striker revealed that he is feeling in top shape as Sweden enter the Round of 32.

"Club team and national team are two very separate things," Isak said. "When I joined the national team, I had absolutely no thoughts about anything other than Sweden and the World Cup.

"It's clear that it's nice to have a good World Cup, and you want to do it even better all the time. I feel like I'm in a good place now. And hopefully I can continue to do well.

"Now I feel good, very good. But it's hard to put your finger on what your maximum is, you never know. But I have nothing to complain about right now when it comes to my physical status."

An early return to fitness could prove invaluable for Liverpool who will miss fellow striker Hugo Ekitike until around Boxing Day later this year.
