Wirtz's lack of goal contributions at Liverpool has been a highlighted issue since he made the £100M+ move to Merseyside from Bayer Leverkusen this summer in what many believe has been a failed move so far.
The German international has failed to find the net or provide an assist for Liverpool since the Community Shield, leading to many joking that he will never make it in the Premier League where the tempo is often much higher than the Bundesliga.
Speaking to Sport Bild, Leverkusen boss Kasper Hjulmand who replaced former manager Xabi Alonso believes differently and hopes he will make his mark soon.
"Come on, he's only just arrived there. Believe me, he'll prove himself to everyone. Even the experts in England. I'm sure of it.
"Show me the player who can perform at his best from day one in a new club and a new league. It's impossible. Florian is a fantastic footballer with outstanding qualities.
“We all know how fast-paced everything is in football: if he scores two great goals in the next two games, people will say, 'Now he's arrived.' That will be just as wrong as the recent criticism.
"Give him time, let him play – and everyone in Liverpool will see how good he is. I have no doubt that he will prove himself."
Wirtz played the full 90 minutes in both of Germany's recent World Cup qualifiers as he helped his country secure maximum points. There is no doubt that he has had an impact on the Liverpool side, but he needs to start contributing more to get critics off his back or his confidence may drop even more.
