Frank is Tottenham’s fifth permanent coach in six years and despite winning the Europa League last season, he replaces Ange Postecoglou in what was a controversial move from the club. Now, five weeks on from his appointment as head coach he answered questions from the media about the season ahead.
After snubbing questions about Bryan Mbeumo and Morgan Gibbs-White, Frank was asked about Chairman Daniel Levy and his ambitions to win the Champions League as well as the Premier League.
“I share his ambitions for the club," Frank responded. "A club of this size should have that ambition. How far away we are is very difficult to say.
“But we should throw it forward and go for it. No doubt that needs to be the aim for the future. What are the odds for us winning the Premier League this season? I’m not allowed to gamble either . . . so I think we’re probably not favourites.
“Probably three teams at least are ahead of us — but we will do what we can to build a strong and competitive team.”
Frank was a huge success in his seven-year spell at Brentford, taking them up into the Premier League and establishing them as one of the most unpredictable and unnerving sides in the division. Arguments can be made that with him at the helm, the club’s chances of lifting a trophy increase but ambition can put immense pressure on the side.
Spurs have had four managers since June 2021, with Nuno Espirito Santo lasting just four months, Antonio Conte 16 months and Postecoglou’s two year spell being ruthlessly ended last season. What is clear is that Frank has the weight of Levy on his shoulder and if he does not bring success than he may be next out the door despite his optimism for the club.
