United have seven games left to secure Champions League football next year as they prepare to take on Leeds United on Monday night.
Interim boss Michael Carrick has take the side back into the Champions League spots but will go without a trophy this year after the side missed out on Europe and were knocked out of every domestic trophy.
Fernandes almost departed last summer before he ultimately rejected a move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal as he stuck by the side who he says can still offer him the chance at competing for every competition available.
The midfielder admits everyone at the club wants to win silverware but competitions such as the Premier League cannot be promised.
"What I always say to the club is: 'You can't promise me that I'm going to win the Premier League. That's impossible. But if you promise me that we're going to be competitive and we're going to be there at the end... that's all I need to know.
"Because then it's on me to become the best version of myself, to help everyone around to become the best version of themselves, to become the club we want to be.
"Everyone that comes to Man United wants to win every trophy.
"No one thinks in coming to the club that we're going to fight for one or two trophies in six years. You want to fight for all of them. Then we went to three finals and didn't win. That can happen.”
The 31 year old has been an ever-present figure in the United team since joining from Sporting in January 2020. His future is in doubt heading into the summer but with the side on the up under Carrick, he could stay one more season as United aim for the title next season.
