Fernandes: Benfica made a bigger contract offer than Man Utd

Fernandes left Sporting for United in 2020, though was offered a move to Benfica less than two year previously.

Benfica made their move after the infamous training ground invasion by Sporting ultras.

Fernandes recalled to Canal 11: "It was here that the possibility of switching to Benfica arose. The club wanted me, and financially it was a very tempting offer.

"I think even today there are very few players in Benfica who have received an offer on the level of what I got.

"Economically, it was a better contract than the first one I had in Manchester United."
