Premier League icon Peter Crouch has torn into Eberechi Eze and his poor start at Arsenal.

Back in November, Eze had become only the third Arsenal player and fourth in total to register a hat trick against rivals Tottenham, and the first in 47 years.

Since then, he has been anonymous under manager Mikel Arteta who has often used him from the bench instead of starting him which has left many fans worried about his future.

The England international managed just 17 touches in a disappointing attacking performance against Brentford on Thursday night.

Crouch ripped into Eze after the game as he spoke to TNT Sport about how the winger is far from his best at the moment.

"I believe he hadn't started in the last nine or something like that, so he got a start today, and you think 'right go and impress.

"Unfortunately he just felt off the boil, he couldn't get on the ball in the first-half. It was difficult for Arsenal in general.

"I felt for him. And he doesn't give you what Odegaard gives you in pressing, and he doesn't affect it when he hasn't got the ball.

"He was a bit of a passenger, if I'm being honest, we called it half an hour in that he was going to come off because for some reason it feels at the moment he (Arteta) doesn't fancy him.

“That is going to damage his England's chances.”

Eze only moved to the Emirates last summer from Crystal Palace as part of a deal worth an initial £60M and despite moving to a bigger side, his chances of making England’s World Cup squad are next to zero.
