Pedro Neto received two yellow cards in the space of a few minutes against The Gunners as Chelsea lost 2-1 last weekend, hurting their chances of securing Champions League football.
The first yellow had been shown for dissent and the second was for a clear, cynical foul on Gabriel Martinelli which saw the Portuguese star sent off.
Neto could face an extra ban after being charged by the FA who released a statement on Thursday afternoon.
“Pedro Neto has been charged after being sent off in the 70th minute of the Premier League fixture between Chelsea FC and Arsenal FC on Sunday 1st March.
“It’s alleged that the player acted in an improper manner by failing to leave the pitch promptly; and/or used abusive words towards the match official/s. Pedro Neto has until Monday 9th March to provide a response.”
Chelsea have picked up seven red cards in the Premier League alone, equalling the worst record set by Burnley.
This is an issue manager Liam Rosenior says his side are working on as his team continue to be reckless on the pitch.
“As a group, me as the leader as well, we have to take more accountability for some of the decision-making we're having in terms of our discipline and in terms of the moments of the goals,” Rosenior said.
“Some of them are just not acceptable at this level.
“You can fine players. It's not about the punishment, it's about finding the reason why. It's a focus and a concentration thing that we need to get right.”
Rosenior's side are next in action on Saturday in the FA Cup, when they travel to Wrexham, hoping to book their place in the Quarter Final.
