Havertz was duly left out of Germany's squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifying fixtures.
"He certainly won't make it," Rudi Voller, the director of the national team, told reporters on Tuesday.
"We don't know exactly how it will go in the coming weeks, whether surgery is upcoming or it will be treated conservatively."
